Sumner edges further ahead

 

August 4, 2007, 3.45pm. Only one special stage and 18.6 kilometres of high-speed driving stand between Dean Sumner and victory in the 2007 Hawke’s Bay Rally.

As the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 driver heads back towards the Napier waterfront finish, he has extended his rally lead to 18.6 seconds over Sam Murray (Subaru Impreza WRX STi).

Hayden Paddon (Evo 8) won Special Stage 6 and has moved into fourth place overall, behind Evo 9 driver and top seed Brett Martin.

Stewart Taylor and Dylan Turner complete the top six, both in Evo 9 Lancers.

Only the Darkies Spur stage northeast of Napier City remains to be run.
