Stanaway on top as Fords head for Timaru

Hotly contested MTA NZ Formula Ford series resumes this weekend

Formula Ford rookie, Richie Stanaway, leads the MTA series as it reaches its half-way point at Levels International Raceway, Timaru, this weekend.

Driving a French-built Mygale chassis, Stanaway dominated Round 3 at Ruapuna, Christchurch, in December.

But he faces plenty of opposition. Taranaki driver, Stefan Webling, is determined to regain the series lead and brothers, Simon and Mitchell Evans, Jamie McNee, Martin Short and Matt Penrose have also been showing sharp-end pace.

A week after the January 10-11 Timaru meeting, the NZ summer racing series heads to Teretonga Park, Invercargill, to complete the southern sweep.

Championship points standings: Richie Stanaway (Tauranga) 565; Stefan Webling (Oakura, Taranaki) 547; Simon Evans (Auckland) 453; Jamie McNee (Wellington) 443; Mitchell Evans (Auckland) 429; Martin Short (Hamilton) 397.
