Skope Industries will continue to sponsor the Canterbury Car Club’s annual classic racing event for a further four years.
In recent seasons, the Skope name has been synonymous with the meeting, one of the country’s foremost historic and classic racing meetings.
The event will continue to be held in February at Powerbuilt Raceway (Ruapuna), and Skope Industries’ managing director, Guy Stewart, says the sponsorship is representative of the Stewart family’s passion for racing classic cars and supporting an event that is a highlight of Christchurch City’s sporting calendar. “We’re proud to be associated with this high-profile motor racing event and would like to see it develop even further in the coming years,” he said.
Canterbury Car Club boss, Lloyd Proctor, said the club and sponsor have a shared vision to broaden the appeal of what is already a very popular and successful meeting, attracting one of the biggest spectator attendances at Ruapuna annually.
Next years meeting is confirmed for February 6-8, 2009. A theme for the meeting has yet to be set, but last season the Skope organisers were primarily responsible for bringing a field of American and Canadian historic CanAm sports racing cars to New Zealand, and the cars also appeared at the Timaru and Teretonga classic meetings.
