Chrischurch driver Simon Beirne dominates second V8 Utes race at A1GP meeting at Taupo.
Christchurch racer Simon Beirne spreadeagled the field in the second V8 Ute race at the Taupo A1GP race meeting this afternoon.
The Ford Falcon driver won by 9.9 seconds from occasional NZ V8s racer, Mack Peach (Holden Commodore).
Beirne had established a good lead early, and by mid-race was maintaining the gap to Peach at 8.8 seconds.
Reigning champion Matt Lockwood (Commodore) finished 14th after officials slapped him with a drive-through penalty for tapping Graham Bairne into a spin.
Lockwood said he had tried to outbrake Beirne, realised he wasn't going to make it and tried to withdraw from the move.
But it was too late and he made light contact with the Falcon, causing it to spin.
Craig Paterson (Ford Falcon) finished third after catching and passing Mike Pero (Commodore) who was also gathered in by race one winner Caine Lobb (Ford).
Ford Mustang racer Dale Mathews won the second Muscle Car counter earlier in the afternoon.
He led home Bruce Kett (Holden Commodore) by 6.2 seconds, with Michael Eden finishing third.
