Manukau City teenager Shane van Gisbergen was hampered by a dud set of tyre in timed practice but still managed 15th fastest lap.
Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen was 15th fastest in timed practice yesterday for this weekend’s 2008 Australian V8 Supercar championship finale at Sydney’s Oran Park.
His SP Tools Ford Falcon was a handful early on a poor set of old tyres which made progress on car set up difficult. He got faster on a set of new tyres late in practice and says he’s confident of a good qualifying performance today.
“We had a real battle on our hands in practice. It turns out we had a dud set of tyres on early and we were trying to make the car better and getting nowhere.
“Once we put our new set on things were a lot better but the time that we lost on the first set really hurt us.
“Aside from that, I’m really enjoying the track. It’s one of my favourites and flows well and there’s always a corner coming up and you can drive hard and get into it.”
