Young Australian gets better of series champion as Craig Baird bogs down off startline.
Australian David Reynolds did something yesterday that virtually no-one has ever done at the start of a New Zealand Porsche GT3 series race.
The pole position starter beat defending Battery Cup series champion and current points leader, Craig Baird, off the line and went on to win the first heat of the Timaru round.
On his way to victory, Reynolds (23) set a new category lap record and looked set for a runaway victory until a Safety Car bunched the field.
But he won the restart and edged away from Baird again. Daniel Gaunt finished third, with Ant Pedersen fourth.
Results of Race One: David Reynolds 1; Craig Baird 2; Daniel Gaunt 3; Ant Pedersen 4; Jody Vincent 5; Courtney Letica 6.
