The Evo 9 campaigner struggled to have the pace to get close to the front running Subarus in the earlier rounds, but over the last two rounds in Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa has proved to be a serious contender with strong performances seeing him share the podium with Mason and West.

The 2005 junior champion, whom is ably guided by Raymond (Crunch) Bennett, has grown with confidence as he gets to grips with setup and tuning of the 2006 Mitsibishi Lancer Evo 9.

Tyre choice and tuning problems meant a sluggish start to the season with a 6th place in Dunedin. This was followed by the disappointment of hitting a rock on the first stage at Rotorua that wrecked a wheel and tyre, costing the pair some 4 minutes. They bravely pressed on to finish a credible 4th place.

Rally Northland saw the team struggle on day one with a mysterious misfire which saw the Martin crew finish leg 1 back in 8th place. Leg 2 had the Lancer firing on all 4 cylinders and Brett showed he can match the times of West and Mason to come home 3rd in the rally sprint, which gave him a 4th place overall at Northland. He has followed this up with a 3rd at Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa, which has seen him climb to 2nd overall in the National Championship, heading into the final round at Nelson in 3 weeks time.

The Martin Rallysport team are confident that with more tuning over next few weeks, they can have the AMP / Ancare N.Z. / MRF Tyres / Argyle rallysport sponsored Evo 9 topping the stage time sheets at Nelson and retain their hard earned 2nd place in the 2006 N.Z Rally championships. Rally Nelson is over the weekend of Sept. 23rd and 24th.
