Pither leads Kiwis to V8 Ute victory

New Zealand V8 Ute Champion Chris Pither 'The Doctor' has led the New Zealand team to victory over their Australian rivals in the V8 Ute Trans Tasman Test Series at Hamilton this weekend

Pither, of Palmerston North, won the all important final test match on Sunday with everything riding on the result. Pither and Aussie Kim 'The Assassin' Jane took one win apiece in the first two races on Saturday but Pither put in an impressive performance in the deciding test, motoring away to win by over 5 seconds.
An ecstatic Pither admitted later that he felt the pressure after Jane won the opening race when the kiwi struck gearbox problems. "The pressure was on. It was a two horse race and I had to level it in race two to give New Zealand a chance. I was stoked when I evened it up!"
After two close races on Saturday Pither had a more dominant win. "We made a couple of changes to ensure the ENZED Falcon would last the distance better. I had the mindset to conserve when I could. The ENZED Falcon was very consistent for the first 8 or 9 laps. It was within .4 of a second every lap. It did drop off a bit but I pushed on for a buffer. I was ready for the brakes and tyres to start fading."
Pither said the strength of Jane's VE Holden was second gear corners such as Turn 1 and 2 at the Hamilton street circuit.
Reflecting on the test series he said. "I really wanted the Kiwis to win. It was a great weekend. It was good for the ute category to race at the highest profile event of the season. We put on a good show."
The V8 Ute Test victory brought down the curtain on a successful summer for Pither. He had a dominant run to the New Zealand title and leading the kiwis to Trans Tasman honours against many of his old rivals from the Australian V8 Ute Series was the icing on the cake.
