Pukekohe racer, Dean Perkins, is looking for a BNT NZ V8s podium placing when he races his GT Radials Ford Falcon in the championship final at his home circuit this weekend
Perkins, always ultra-quick on the south of Auckland track and a former NZ V8s front-runner, isn’t contesting this season’s championship while he concentrates on his business, but is doing selected rounds.
“We’d love to (get) a podium finish at Pukekohe,” he says. “I finished with two third placings and a 14th when we were there in round two and was literally a handful of points away from spraying the champagne.
“Unfortunately there were a few too many competitors in front of us in the final reverse grid race and I couldn’t quite make up enough places.
“Home advantage certainly plays a part in our success at Pukekohe, but I simply love the fast nature of the circuit,” Perkins says. “It rewards drivers who are prepared to push things along and hang out a bit wider at critical parts of the track. I’m going to be driving as fast as I can.”
