Mal Clark at Bygone Autos, with John Sampson and Mike Fenwick are well ahead with the car preparation ..... the engine is back from crack testing and along with freshened heads is ready for assembly.

The main gearbox has been given a birthday and a spare is nearly complete.

The diff is apart for crack testing and will be reassembled with new bearings.

Another 5 weeks will see the car finished and ready for a shakedown test.

This 7-day gravel rally around New Zealand's best roads in the South Island is a challenging logistical exercise making the assistance of our long term sponsors Trade Tools, Classic Cover, Vero, Mortgage Distribution and Insurance Consultants all the more appreciated. With ferry bookings, flights and accomodation all sorted ..... half the tyre requirments already received and the other half ordered (giving a total of 40 new tyres). Having the right tyres in the right place at the right time, along with a similar equation with fuel are just a couple of the question marks facing team management.

The rally entry has settled at an impressive 75 with the potential for a few more before close of entries. Former World Rally Champion Stig Blomqvist is the star entry in a classic Mk2 Escort BDA. He will be joined by a 5 strong team of Porsches from the UK, 4 former NZ Rally Champions, and an entry from David Sutton, former team manager to Ari Vatanen in his "Rothmans Escort" days. Combined with a swag of entries from Australia all these will ensure a very high profile for the event.

The original rally route has had to be altered slightly due to road damage caused by the severe winter conditions and will be around 1450 kilometres of special stages over 7 days. Many of the "classic" stages from the early Heatway Rallies will be revisited.

The Trad Tools Triumph TR7 team are very excited about being involved in the NZ Silver Fern rallying adventure which will showcase many of the iconic classic rally cars from an era of rallying that is re-emerging with ever increasing popularity.
The spectacle and sound of a BDA Escort on full noise in a forest, the rotary Mazda's scrabbling for traction, the Works Chevettes, and Nissans, all trying to balance power and traction ..... some will go sideways to victory ..... most others will just go sideways ..... for a week ...BRING IT ON !! Oh, and there's a handful of "jeeps" as well which have been invited to highlight the spectacle that is 2WD rallying.
