Reigning junior and rookie champion Hayden Paddon signs up for 2007 NZ Rally Championship programme.
February 21, 2007. South Canterbury teenager Hayden Paddon is the first leading Group N contender to confirm a New Zealand Rally Championship programme in 2007.
Paddon (19) won last season’s national Junior and Rookie titles and will campaign the same Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8, but under the banner of the BNT Driving into the Future rally programme run by past New Zealand champion Reece Jones.
The programme was set up by Reece and Kay Jones in 2006 to help young New Zealand talent get a step forward in the sport.
The package includes support from BNT and technical support and advice from Reece Jones Rallysport.
“It’s a very exciting opportunity and programme to be part of,” says Paddon.
“Its great to have Reece and his team helping us this season and I'm sure that their experience and expertise will be a huge boost to our campaign and future ahead.”
Paddon has retained highly-experienced co-driver John Kennard (Blenheim) for the coming season.
“Our goal this year is to be competitive within the top three,” says Paddon.
“However in saying that, we just want a consistent and steady start to the season and hope to be in the top five for the first couple of rallies.”
The opening round of the New Zealand Championship is the Otago Rally on April 14-15.
