June 3, 2007, 1pm. A hard-charging Hayden Paddon is within striking distance of second place in today’s second leg of the Wairarapa Rally.
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 driver has set his third successive runner-up stage time and has closed to within 1.7 seconds of second-placed Dean Sumner (Evo 9).
Richard Mason (Subaru Impreza WRX STi) has increased his lead over Sumner to 57 seconds after winning his fifth stage in a row.
Meanwhile Callum McInnes’ fine charge has been blunted after he picked up a right rear puncture in SS11 and dropped 30 seconds.
He had been running third, ahead of a fast-closing Paddon.
