Pirelli is providing WRC teams with one regulation tyre pattern to cover both the tarmac and gravel legs of Rally Cyprus which starts on Friday
Crews tackle the first day on tarmac roads and the second and third days on gravel.
Pirelli will make Scorpion gravel tyre available in hard compound for both surfaces.
Teams aren’t allowed to hand-carve additional cuts into the rubber and each car can carry two spare wheels.
To offset concerns about tyre wear an additional two tyres will be available for each crew in the refuel area after the opening stage of the tarmac leg.
In the build-up to Cyprus, Ford’s works team has a 1250km six-day test in Sardinia.
Both drivers, Mikko Hirvonen (pictured) and Jari-Matti Latvala, completed one day on tarmac and two days on gravel.
