No hometown luck for Hepburn

Hometown luck wasn’t with South Canterbury driver, John Hepburn, in last weekend’s BNT NZ V8s races at Timaru International Motor Raceway

The catalogue of woes began in race one on Saturday when he fought diff and gearbox problems and a broken ball joint to bring his Holden Commodore top 18th place.

The team worked long into the night to repair the car, and in Sunday’s first race, Hepburn fought a good battle with Ford Falcon racers, Alan McCarrison of Auckland and Simon Richards of Hamilton. He finally got past McCarrison and finished 16th.
Wrong tyre choice hampered Hepburn in the 20-lap reverse grid finale and he couldn’t get within three seconds of the lap times he’d been running earlier in the day. But he persevered and brought the car to its third points-scoring finish of the weekend.
