June 3, 2007, 12.15pm. Emma Gilmour’s Wairarapa Rally appears to be over.
The Dunedin driver has reportedly stopped in Special Stage 10, a fast sprint through Quarry and Cliff roads just to the north of Eketahuna township, with mechanical problems in her Vantage Subaru Impreza WRX STi.
Gilmour has been running near the bottom of the top 10 in this morning’s three special stages, struggling for pace in the brand-new car.
Her Impreza, built in three weeks to replace the car destroyed in a massive crash in the Whangarei Rally last month, hadn’t turned a wheel in competition until yesterday morning.
Meanwhile, communication difficulties are hampering the flow of information and stage times between timing crews in the field and rally headquarters in Masterton.
