New promoter's first night at the Springs

Former Christchurch speedway promoter takes over at Auckland racetrack

Western Springs speedway runs under new promoter, Lewis Dawson, for the first time tonight.

Springs Promotions owner, Bill Buckley, announced Dawson’s appointment as general manager of the company and promoter of speedway at Western Springs this week.

Dawson replaces Dave Stewart who leaves after six years as promoter. “After six years of speedway at Western Springs Dave is leaving and I’ve appointed Lewis to the challenging role,” Buckley says.

“We still have six more years to run on our contract with Auckland City and I hope to see speedway racing continue at Western Springs for many more years after that.”

Stewart says the move is “a positive one for personal reasons for me.” Stewart was at the track today overseeing the transition.

“Bill and I know that Lewis brings a wealth of experience and expertise to Springs Promotions. He’s been promoting Woodford Glen (speedway in Christchurch) and has achieved so much for the guys down there.”

Dawson says he’s been contemplating a move to Auckland for some time for family reasons.

“I’m stepping into a great speedway operation and I’m looking forward to building on past successes for Bill and his team.”
