Former world rally champion, Petter Solberg, will be out to show his mettle when he debuts his own team in this weekend’s Rally Norway
Solberg and co-driver Phil Mills will start the Norwegian’s home event in a 2006 Citroen Xsara WRC fielded by Peter Solberg World Rally Team. FX Demaison is preparing and running the car and Ken Rees is managing the team.
Solberg was left without a drive after Subaru pulled the plug on its factory rally programme.
He took the wraps off his new car at a snowy launch function in Norway last Friday, debuting his new slogan – “never give up” – at the same time.
“I have a lot of brilliant people around me, and they have all been working 24-hour shifts for me the past weeks,” Solberg said. “Without them and my sponsors, this would not have been possible.”
Solberg gave the car its final pre-Rally Norway test at Finnskogen last weekend. He said the team got off to a flying start.
“It was snowing all day, and even some of us Norwegians had never seen this much snow coming down at the same time. Really tough conditions, but if the car works well with this much snow – you are prepared for everything.”
Rally Norway, round two of the 2009 World Rally Championship, starts on Thursday.
