New national rally champion Sam Murray will be chasing outright wins in next season’s Vantage Aluminium New Zealand Rally Championship.
After winning this year’s championship through consistent driving and point scoring, Murray wants to prove there is speed in him and the Fram Subaru Impreza WRX STi.
He said a limited budget meant that, in most cases, development had to be done on the rally stages rather than in testing.
‘We did what we needed to do (in the championship) given our circumstances, and next year my aim is to be back on the pace and win events – something I know I can do with mileage and confidence,” he said this week.
“This coming NZRC will see us with our best package yet. With WRC’s (engine preparation) experience in mapping and engine development, and my ambition to win stages and rallies next year, I see no reason why it won’t happen.
“We will start with a fully rebuilt car; we have loyal sponsors and our resources we have built up over the last three seasons will make our whole set-up very impressive – a big step up in image from last season.’’
