Multiple Bathurst winner, Greg Murphy, produced a sensational drive to race from 30th place to eighth in the second 250km race of the Clipsal 500 V8 Supercar series opener at Adelaide yesterday
The Sprint Gas Racing Holden Commodore driver finished one place behind former teammate and fellow Kiwi Jason Richards’s Brad Jones Racing Holden.
Murphy overtook 10 cars on the first lap then added another 22 scalps, catching and overtaking cars with relative ease.
“It was good to be competitive and to pass,” he said. “No one was able to attack me today, the car was strong and I was able to hold my own.
“We were stronger away from traffic. On a clear track I could put a better lap together enabling me to catch up with cars ahead of me.
“It was a pretty good performance. I got no points yesterday so it was good to get some strong points today.”
In race one on Saturday, Murphy’s car and that of teammate Jason Bargwanna had engine temperature problems. Changes made overnight made the cars more competitive.
