Skoda’s Fabia Super 2000 contender makes its world competition debut in next month’s Monte Carlo Rally.
The work team will contest the 2009 Intercontinental Rally Challenge series (IRC) with two of the naturally-aspirated four-wheel drive cars, for Czech Jan Kopecky and Finn Juho Hanninen.
Skoda engineering chief Eckhard Scholz says the car will compete primarily in the IRC series, and will be “absolutely competitive.”
Skoda will encourage its importers in various countries to use Fabia S2000s in national championships and will also sell them to privateers.
The Fabia’s two-litre engine will drive all four wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox.
