Master of the Cardrona hill, Monster Tajima, sets the initial pace in testing for the Race to the Sky hillclimb.
April 8, 2007, 3am. Defending champion Nobuhiro (Monster) Tajima was fastest in Saturday morning’s practice session for the Race to the Sky hillclimb at Cardrona, near Wanaka.
The Japanese hurled his Suzuki special up the hill in 8 minutes 26.2432 seconds.
That was 16 seconds better than second-fastest, former WRC rally driver Kenneth Eriksson, in an ex-Possum Bourne Subaru Impreza.
Third-fastest Ian Fitch with 8m 45.2569 seconds on a BRN 100R super quad bike.
Manukau City, Auckland, rally driver Andrew Hawkeswood was fourth-fastest, with 8m 51.5599s, in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 special.
Dunedin driver Emma Gilmour didn’t complete a run in her Subaru Impreza.
She drove slowly around the rallycross track at the base of the hill before heading back to the service area.
