The provisional 2007 V8 Supercar championship calendar has been released and for the first time features 14 championship rounds..
Eastern Creek is back on the agenda and will be run over the Queen's Birthday long weekend on June 9-11, including the public holiday Monday.
V8 Supercars Australia is holding back on the long weekend's format, stating that details would be revealed in the New Year.
Beyond an additional round at the first-ever Monday race day, the 2007 calendar has received only minor tweaks from previous years, with the season-opening Clipsal 500 brought forward several weeks to the first weekend in March.
From there, the V8 circus heads to Perth in late March, swapping championship slots, although not dates, with New Zealand, scheduled for April 20-22.
Rural Victorian fans are also catered for with Winton back on the calendar, having replace dthe Shanghai round successfully for the second year running, while Eastern Creek - touted by V8SA as the replacement round for the Australian Grand Prix non-championship support races - is next on the june long weekend.
The balance of the calendar is close to this year's version, with the only significant change the swapping of Bahrain and Symmons Plains rounds.
"This calendar really gives all of the fans across Australia the chance to get behind the championship as it provides them with a race at all of the major Australian circuits," said V8SA Chairman, Tony Cochrane.
Absent from the 2007 calendar is the much-mooted Townsville round.
But Cochrane said a July 2008 for a Townsville street race was "almost certain" when talking on a webcast.
"I'm like a dog with a bone," Cochrane told listeners. "I don't give up easily and I'm going to keep pushing until I get Townsville."
