June 3, 2007, 11.45am. New Zealand rally champion Richard Mason heads into the second set of three stages in Leg 2 of the Wairarapa Rally with a handy 35.9-second lead.
Mason (Subaru Impreza WRX STi) has won all three stages this morning, increasing his lead on each of the last two tests.
Dean Sumner runs second in his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9, but is holding third-placed Callum McInnes to a roughly seven-second margin.
Series leader Hayden Paddon, who is running first on the road in his Evo 8, hit his straps on this morning’s third test, setting second fastest time, 8.2 seconds behind Mason.
Paddon runs fourth, seven seconds ahead of Patrick Malley (Evo 8).
Emma Gilmour, still regaining her confidence after her massive crash in Northland, and getting to grips with her new Impreza, is ninth after the first three stages.
Mark Tapper is dominating the Ford Fiesta class and is 26.3 seconds ahead of Chris Lange.
Aaron Cook (Honda Jazz Type R) leads Kiwi 2 by 19.6 seconds from Dave Strong (Honda Civic).
