Team Betta Electrical's Craig Lowndes has won at the seventh round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Sydney's Oran Park Raceway today in sensational style. Lowndes secured the round victory with an impressive second place in the final reverse grid race of 2006 and after starting from pole, won the final 53-lap race by a massive 11.8 seconds from Rick Kelly and fellow Ford driver James Courtney. The championship leader commenting team pit stops and good tyre wear were the two crucial components in setting him up for the win. "All the hard work the team has been putting into perfecting our pit stops really paid off this weekend," Lowndes said "It was great racing today, Rick had good car pace in some parts of the track and I had it in others. While he remains a strong favourite for the title, he has assumed a new arch rival in Toll HSV's Rick Kelly. Tander slipped back to third with Kelly moving up to second. It was the end of the reverse grid for the year but that was a race where Lowndes won the event. He then dominated the final race of the weekend to take the win from Kelly and the resurgent James Courtney who claimed his first podium position of his V8 Supercar career.
