BNT NZ V8s series rookie, Andy Knight, had plenty of speed but little luck at Manfeild last weekend.
Take Saturday’s qualifying, for instance. He got into the top 10 shootout with the day’s seventh fastest lap. Then the Milwaukee Tools Ford Falcon jammed in gear, damaging the motor and leaving the Cantabrian 10th fastest time.
The team couldn’t get the new engine into the car in time for that afternoon’s race, and Knight was a frustrated non-starter.
That meant he had to start Sunday morning’s race from the back of the field, but he worked his way through to finish 11th.
In the rain-lashed reverse grid finale, the windscreen wiper failed. Unable to see where he was going, he pitted for repairs before resuming.
Knight will be looking for a change of luck in the series’ final round at Pukekohe in two weekends’ time.
