August 31, 2007, 3.50pm. Citroen driver Sebastien has sliced six tenths of a second off Finn Marcus Gronholm’s lead in the Rally of New Zealand.
Loeb beat the Ford driver in Special Stage 3, the second run through Pirongia West in the western Waikato.
Gronholm’s teammate Mikko Hirvonen was third on the stage and continues to run third overall, one place ahead of Australian Chris Atkinson’s Subaru Impreza WRC.
Loeb had lost time in this morning’s first two stages after opting to run to soft a tyre, expecting the road surfaces to be wetter then they were.
“We had very soft tyres,” he said at the end of Special Stage 1.
“We made a wrong (tyre compound) choice. We were moving all over the place.”
