NZ V8s stalwart Dean Perkins will take only a limited part in this season’s BNT-backed championship because of sponsorship concerns and increased demands on his time from business interests.
In a telephone call from Vanuatu, Perkins told Auto Trader that his businesses there are taking more of his time and causing him to spend more time away from New Zealand.
“At the moment its looking like I’ll only be taking in two or three rounds,” says Perkins who has raced Ford Falcons under the GT Radials banner.
“I’ve always supported the series, but [the organisers] are making it hard for me. It looks like if I do race I won't be eligible for points and I’ll have to start at the back of the grid in the reverse grid race and even have to pay an entry fee for the meetings I can’t race at.
“GT Radials have been very good to me, but they’ve supported me for five or six years and maybe the main thrust of that sponsorship has run its course.
“They’re still keen to support me through the three meetings that I will do – I’m thinking Hamilton, Pukekohe because its my home track, and maybe one of the South Island tracks to maintain a presence for GT Radials there.”
