Lester concentrates on Kiwi campaign

Bows out of Australian efforts

Jono Lester has withdrawn from the final rounds of this year’s Carrera Cup Australia to concentrate on the upcoming Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge championship in New Zealand.

Lester has contested six Carrera Cup Australia rounds so far this year with support from Blackwoods Australia.

However with the 2008/2009 New Zealand series set to start in early November, the 18-year-old says he doesn’t want to spread his resources too thinly.

“I’ve got fantastic support from the Blackwoods brand on both sides of the Tasman, but when we sat down and looked at what we’ve achieved in Australia this year and what we’d like to achieve here over the summer, we decided that it would be better to throw all our efforts behind the New Zealand campaign before a fresh start in Australia in ‘09.”

In Australia this year he has been driving a Blackwoods-backed Porsche 997 GT3 Cup Car for Greg Murphy Racing, with his best performance coming at Barbagallo in Western Australia where he qualified third and put in one of the drives of the meeting in the wet second race, working his way from 21st at the start to sixth at the finish.
