Video: Chris van der Drift has escaped a serious crash during a Superleague Formula race at Brands Hatch in the UK
Chris van der Drift suffered a broken ankle and an injured shoulder and hand in the crash yesterday.
The Olympiacos driver was battling Roma's Julien Jousse for fifth place towards the end of the second race when he clipped the back of Jousse's car.
He was catapulted into the air and struck a bridge, causing the car to flip and catch fire before landing back on the circuit. The wreckage was narrowly missed by following cars as it came to rest at the bottom of the dip in the circuit.
He was taken to hospital in Dartford following the crash to receive treatment for his injuries.
Jousse said of the incident: "I knew he was there, but he came so quickly. I was a bit slow, because I was on worn tyres, and I didn't want to protect my position from him. I stayed on the right and I thought he'd pass me on the left."
