Contesting the 50th Anniversary Gore Rally, Christchurch driver Jeff Judd put points on the board for his Mainland Rally Series campaign by finishing the southern event in 12th position.
Driving the immaculate Hankook Tyres supported Ford BDA Escort, Judd said he was pleased with the result given the calibre of 4WD cars he was pitted against.
“I was trying to crack the top-10 but it was a big ask really, when you consider the number of EVO’s and turbo charged cars.”
Covering nine special stages based around Gore, the rally was the second round of the Mainland Rally Series – Judd finally getting a finish after mechanical failure in the opening event.
“It was a great rally with great roads,” Judd added. Slowed by an engine misfire in the early stages, the fault was rectified for him to charge: “It was a hard fought second in class placing, but it’s a finish for the Mainland Rally Series, so that was pretty important.”
With expected TV coverage on Sky TV’s SpeedWeek show, Judd now focuses on the his second round of the Rally Xtreme series – travelling to the North Island for the Trust House Racetech Rally of Wairarapa (26-27 August 2006).
