Jensen takes James Allen Memorial Rallysprint victory

 

In a nail biting run off with ex National Champion Andrew Hawkeswood, Howick driver Matthew Jensen has won the James Allen Memorial Rallysprint by only 2 seconds.

Untitled Document The event was run on Saturday 21st October in the Maramarua forest, 25 minutes South of the Bombay hills and was run by the South Auckland Car Club.

Competitors raced over two timed gravel stages of 10km each. These stages were repeated 4 times, to find the fastest competitior on the day. Competition was strong as Matthew in an older Mitsubishi Evo 6 was challenged by newer Mitsubishi Evo 8 and 9's. However Matthew and co-driver Brett Wright of Taranaki dominated the competition all day by winning each of the 4 runs.

In the final deciding run Matthew was in a run off with Andrew Hawksewood in a Mitsubishi Evo 8. Matthew was determined to take the overall win, and pushed the car to its limit in a real show of speed and clinched the win by a mear 2 seconds. "The continued support of our sponsors, particularily Santa Rosa Chicken and Hellers Smallgoods has allowed the team to invest in the car this season and make the necessary improvements to take the win" Matthew said.

The team will now compete in a number of small events before rebuilding the car completely in preparation of a busy 2007 season.
