Huntly Placemakers Speedway numbers have grown with a speed that hasn't been experienced before.
With the first registration program completed last week, numbers have grown to in excess of 150 for the upcoming season. That is an expected increase of over 40% on last year's figures. The eight classes Huntly run will all have near capacity fields at each meeting.
The Huntly Placemakers Speedway track has also had a higher degree of interest from companies wishing to associate with the events the track has running this year.
Club President Red Wootton said "I feel the interest from both drivers and companies to be part of Huntly Speedway this season is a direct result of the Valvoline Celebrity Classic and Tiger Woods appearance". "This event raised the profile of our sport and showed that we can provide a good entertainment program and a great venue"
Huntly Speedway also has three current New Zealand Champions based at their track and confirmed as returning to defend their titles are Mini sprint champion Shaun Cooke and Super Saloon Champion Steve Williams. Twice Modified Champion Tony Galbraith announced his retirement at the end of last season after being at the top of the sport for many years.
With the season opener on the 14th of October the competitor practise sessions at the track will show off some very new machinery and other cars that have undergone extensive rebuilding programs in the off season.
This seasons program of events has attracted top quality championships and that in turn will ensure the best drivers in New Zealand will be coming to do battle with the local Huntly drivers and this bodes well for an action packed season of thrills and spills.
