Aucklander's James Holder and Richard Ellis have claimed victory on Saturday at the 0800 BOXMAN Rally of Nelson
Competing in the Kiwi 2 class Holder and Ellis hunted down early leader Kayne Barrie, taking the win by 8 seconds.
Charging into 2nd place on the first stage, the pair kept the pressure on for the afternoon, and after trailing Barrie heading into the final run, they snatched the lead, winning the stage by 11 seconds.
"The tight, twisty roads were ideally suited to the Toyota," said Holder. "We took it easy over some of the rougher sections of the day, but pushed a bit harder towards the finish. All in all it was a pretty good day!"
An incident free outing, the team will be working hard to check over the car and make sure everything is good to go for leg 2.
