Hawkeswood best Kiwi again

NZ rallying fastman Andrew Hawkeswood was again fastest Kiwi in the Race to the Sky hillclimb.

April 11, 2007, 5pm. Aucklander Andrew Hawkeswood retained the Possum Bourne Memorial Trophy, as fastest New Zealander, for the third successive year in the 2007 Race to the Sky hillclimb near Wanaka.

Driving his Fuso sponsored 810bhp custom-built Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9, Hawkeswood beat quad-bike rider Ian Ffitch, to take the hat trick.

Hawkweswood's time waas eight minutes 29.5 seconds.

“Ffitchie always puts up a good fight,” said Hawkeswood. “He beat us in the first run up the hill which gave us a bit of a wake-up but we made a few changes, both mechanical and psychological, which sorted that out.”
