Rising NZ star steps into European F3 as he continues on the path he hopes will take him to Formula 1.
Kiwi Brendon Hartley, a front-runner in the 2008 British Formula championship, will race in the F3 Euro Series with Carlin Motorsport this year.
The Red Bull Junior Team driver scored several victories during his debut season in British F3 and also showed impressive speed and car feedback skills in a test with Red Bull’s Formula 1 team last month.
Hartley continues with Carlin as it expands its Formula 3 racing operation. It has also signed Australian Daniel Ricciardo for the 2009 British F3 championship.
"Brendon is a very valued and well liked member of the team,” says team boss Trevor Carlin. “He showed stunning pace in British F3 last year and towards the end of the season a new maturity and confidence emerged in his racing, which I’m sure we’ll see again in F3 Euro Series in 2009.”
Volkswagen will provide the engines for Red Bull drivers in F3 this year, causing Carlin to switch from Mercedes power.
