Harford fastest in TRS testing

 

Ben Harford sets the fastest lap in hotly-contested TRS test sessions at Timaru.

March 3, 2007, 10.15am. Wellingtonian Ben Harford set the fastest lap in Toyota Racing Series testing at Timaru yesterday, logging 59.213 seconds in the final of three sessions for the Celica-engined open-wheelers.

Reigning champion and current series leader was two-tenths behind in that session, 0.082s up on series rookie Shane van Gisbergen.

Van Gisbergen had been quickest in session two, topping the timesheet with 59.494s, 0.072 ahead of Harford with Andy Knight third.

Harford had led Gaunt and van Gisbergen in session one.

Michael Burdett followed up on his good form in the previous round at Manfeild to be fastest in all three MTA Formula Ford sessions.

The other fast drivers in the class were Andrew Waite, Caine Lobb and Sam MacNeill.

Timaru racer and former TRS fastman, Brent Collins was quickest of the Mini Challenge drivers, posting fastest laps in all three sessions. He was trailed each time by Anthony Pedersen.

Matt Halliday made a meal of the Battery Town Porsche GT3 sessions, fastest in all sessions, twice by good margins.

In session three Rick Armstrong ran him close, clocking 64.446s – 0.034 slower than Halliday.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 driver Dale Williams posted fastest time in all three KPMG Production Racing sessions, each time from Trevor Roodekerk (Evo 9).

All classes have qualifying sessions today, and all will contest one race.
