Teretonga re-institutes evening race for Porsches.
Porsche GT3 competitors will be racing into the evening at Invercargill’s Teretonga Park today as summer series organisers take advantage of the long Southland twilight.
Battery Cup series racers will contest a 30-lap race starting at 7.40pm and finishing at 8.25.
Twilight races were a popular part of the Porsche GT3 Cup series programme till two years ago when the summer motor racing calendar was modified to accommodate the A1GP round at Taupo.
The re-arranged calendar saw Teretonga's traditional January date moved to March. Now that the Teretonga Tier One round is back in January, the night race is back too.
"Our factory-built GT3 Cup cars lend themselves to this type of event and though it is not quite a night race the changing light conditions at that time of the evening add a new dimension for drivers and spectators alike," says GT3 series organiser, Grant Smith.
Defending champion Craig Baird leads the series, from Australian David Reynolds who dominated last weekend’s round at Timaru.
