Young NZ motor racing allrounder Daniel Gaunt will step into the Team Kiwi V8 at Symmons Plains this weekend.
Double Toyota Racing Series champion, Daniel Gaunt, makes his Australian V8 Supercar debut in the Team Kiwi Racing (TKR) Ford Falcon at Symmons Plains, Tasmania, this weekend.
TKR owner David John says Gaunt is an outstanding prospect who converted his open-wheeler form to second place in last season’s New Zealand Porsche GT3 championship.
Gaunt has driven V8 Supercars in tests with WPS Racing in 2006 and Stone Brothers Racing earlier this year.
Gaunt says the TKR drive “is a dream come true. That may sound like a cliche but I know so many drivers would give anything to have the opportunity to drive in the V8 Supercar Championship.
“It means so much for Team Kiwi to have the confidence to put me behind the wheel in full race conditions. It makes me very proud and extremely grateful."
John says Gaunt will benefit from the chance to race in V8 Supercars. “We believe Daniel has the potential to be a solid performer in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship.
“He has achieved plenty in New Zealand but the step to the international stage will be a significant one that will take Daniel some time to come to grips with. It’s great to see another young kiwi driver achieve something he’s dreamed about since he was a teenager.
“We may not have the fastest car out there or the biggest budget but we definitely enjoy seeing the dreams of talented young drivers come true.”
He says Gaunt is a potential candidate to drive fulltime for TKR in 2009.
