Game on for Holder at Wairarapa

Auckland rally driver James Holder and co-driver Richard Ellis will be ready to rumble when they take on this weekend's Rally of Wairarapa.

Auckland rally driver James Holder and co-driver Richard Ellis will be ready to rumble when they take on this weekend's Rally of Wairarapa.

Heading into the penultimate round of the Parker ENZED New Zealand Rally Championship (NZRC) on the back of 2 leg-one wins, Holder and Ellis aim to make it 3 in a row, strengthening their championship hopes.

Currently sitting 3rd in the Kiwi 2wd championship following a string of podium finishes, the pair will be working hard to post some more winning times and build on their recent results.

But despite setting the pace amongst the 2wd contenders at last month's Rally of Hawkes Bay, winning 6 out of 11 stages, Holder is reluctant to talk up his chances, choosing a wait and see approach instead.

"We had some pretty good stages at Hawkes Bay and things were flowing well. But with just 2 more rounds to go its make or break time in the championship and everyone will be trying to assert themselves... we'll just play the game accordingly".

And it's this sort of approach which has seen the team power their little Toyota Levin into championship contention for a second year running. Narrowly missing out on overall honours for the 2005 Kiwi 2 championship Holder and Ellis have fought their way towards the front of the field in what has proved to be a very fast championship.

"The competition has really stepped up this year and it's going to make it pretty exciting as we near the end of the season," said Holder.

As the season draws to a close the boys are shifting their attention to making it over to the 2007 Ford Fiesta World Rally Championship in Europe. Encouraged by the performance of New Zealand's Emma Gilmour at last weekend's Rally of Finland, the team is keen to bolster New Zealand's presence on the world rally stage and prove that Kiwis can mix it with the best.

However with the Rally of Wairarapa kicking off this Saturday from Masterton all eyes are on preparing for what is sure to be a potential championship decider.

The team would like acknowledge the valued support of Monit Rally Computers, Ellis Law, Attentive Design, Bendon Man, Amberley Kitchens, CST Nexia, Alexander Group, Toyotaz Galore, CPS, Jamex, MSC and Maffey.com.
