Formula Ford series down to wire this weekend

It’s crunch time for the hard-chargers of the MTA Formula Ford championship as they head into this weekend’s final round at Pukekohe

Tauranga’s Richie Stanaway (pictured) will be out to convert his points lead into the 2008/2009 title, but he’s only 97 ahead of Auckland’s Mitch Evans and there are 225 points on offer.

Stanaway could take the title with consistent placings in the three races – three sixth placings, in fact, would be good enough.

But you can be sure he’ll be out to cement the crown by winning races, and Evans will be out to wrest it away by doing the same.

They’ll face strong competition from drivers like Stefan Webling (Oakura, Taranaki), Jamie McNee (Wellington), Matthew Penrose (Rangiora), Damon Leitch (Invercargill), Martin Short (Hamilton) and Simon Evans (Auckland).

Webling and McNee have a mathematical chance of winning the series, and all are in the hunt for runner-up.

Qualifying is on Saturday morning with the first 10-lap race that afternoon. The second race is on Sunday morning, with the 15-lap feature race early in the afternoon.
