Winterbottom and Whincup were the winners in the V8 Supercar series on the weekend
Mark Winterbottom took Ford Performance Racing to victory in the opening race of the Darwin round on Saturday, but couldn't follow up on Sunday, when Holden Team Vodafone's Jamie Whincup produced a stunning victory.
Winterbottom held out two-time V8 defending champion Whincup by 0.79 seconds in the opening 120km race on Saturday. Ford's Shane van Gisbergen was third with series leader James Courtney fifth.
Winterbottom just missed a follow-up result on Sunday thanks to clever tyre strategy, which saw him and van Gisbergen wait until last minute to change to soft sprint tyres.
When he emerged from his final pit stop he was 10th and 30 seconds behind leader Whincup with 20 laps left.
But in the end, Winterbottom ran out of laps, finishing second just over four seconds behind Whincup.
Van Gisbergen was third - the same as Saturday and his sixth podium of 2010 - while Courtney finished fourth.
Courtney still leads the series on 1698 points ahead of Whincup (1641), Craig Lowndes (1452), van Gisbergen (1412) and Winterbottom (1344).
It was the seventh race win of the year for Whincup, his 40th career victory, but more importantly, snapped a five-race winning streak by Ford.
