Turn-around in fortune for Angus Fogg
Angus Fogg will run an LG Electronics-backed Ford Falcon in the 2008/2009 NZ V8s championship.
The announcement gives a boost to the series after several high profile withdrawals over the last few weeks.
Only a few weeks ago, it seemed unlikely that Fogg would contest the championship this season following the decision by sponsors Caltex to withdraw from racing.
And former teammate Paul Pedersen has bought the Falcon Fogg raced for most of last season.
“It all fell into place fairly quickly,” Fogg said this week.
“I’ve left Lyall [Williamson who runs International Motorsport for whom Fogg has raced the past few seasons] on good terms and I’m working flat out to prepare the car.”
The deal began to come together when Auckland NZ V8s privateer Kevin Williams bought the older Falcon Fogg used in the first two rounds of last season’s championship.
Williams won’t be racing this season and Fogg is now working from Williams’ workshop and is preparing the car around one of his (Fogg’s) self-built engines, bought from International Motorsport.
He will also race under Williams’ NZA V8s franchise.
Fogg says the older car had done a lot of mileage and a ground-up rebuild is needed before the opening round at Taupo next month.
Williams intends to retain his Holden Commodore for possible use as a spare car, should it be required.
