Dixon's IndyCar aspirations slip away

Kiwi Scott Dixon has no chance of taking the IndyCar title after the indy Japan 300 on the weekend

Pole-sitter Helio Castroneves of Brazil won the Indy Japan 300, taking the lead on lap 118 and holding on for 82 laps.

In clinching his third win of the season, Castronevas ensures the championship will come down to the final race of the year.

Dixon finished sixth, slipping to fourth in the championship, 90 points behind series points leader Will Power of Australia.

Defending series champion Dario Franchitti of Scotland was second, followed by Power.

The result means Franchitti trails Power by just 12 points heading into the final race of the season on October 2 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Ryan Briscoe, who started on the front row with Penske teammate Castroneves, was fourth. Danica Patrick was fifth
