Coppins untouchable at British champs

New Zealand's, Josh Coppins, has perfected another clean sweep at the penultimate round of the British champs in Wakes Colne.

New Zealand's, Josh Coppins, has perfected another clean sweep at the penultimate round of the British champs in Wakes Colne. Organizers overcame heavy overnight rainfall to save the redesigned circuit, although morning qualifying sessions were effected by the drenched underground.

After qualifying 2.40 secs faster than fellow CAS Honda team-mate, Ken De Dycker, Coppins grabbed the hole-shot in moto 1. A quick tussle with De Dycker ensued however the number 1 CAS Honda soon over powered the Belgian and pulled away to take victory by half a minute.

Coppins repeated his first moto success by dominating the second moto. A 44 second lead proved a tough blow for the Kiwi's competitors as Coppins did not let up until the checkered flag.

"I rode the track in 2004 and to be honest I didn't really enjoy it, but Johnny Douglas Hamilton and the organizers made some awesome changes and considering all the rain we had they did a brilliant job, so hats off to them. The practice sessions and first moto were still a bit muddy which made it quite technical but I still grabbed two hole-shots and managed to control the race after having a good battle with Ken," explained Coppins.

'Lizzard' heads back to Belgium to contend the United Telecom Belgian champs in Balen, Keiheuvel on Tuesday. Coppins considers the town of Balen as his 'home away from home' and the New Zealander will be up against a near GP line-up including Stefan Everts on the notorious sand circuit. But before making it to the Keiheuvel, Coppins has a date with destiny as a lost bet will see the CAS Honda pilot having to skydive tomorrow afternoon - a jump which coincides with the Areoclub Keiheuvel's 50th anniversary.
