Clements takes first blood

February 10, 2007. Christchurch’s Ian Clements drove his Lola T332 to victory in the first race of Round 3 of the 2006/2007 F5000 Tasman Cup Revival Series at Timaru International Raceway.

Clements, the defending series champion, won the race to the first corner in Saturday's six-lap event and was untroubled for the rest of the distance. He led Stuart Lush of Auckland (McRae GM1) across the line by 1.3 seconds.

Earlier in the day Clements had set the second fastest qualifying time to sit alongside pole-winner Lush.

When the red lights went out, Clements got the better of Lush and they drew away from Stan Redmond (Lola T332) throughout the race. Redmond finished a lonely third ahead of fellow Christchurch driver Tony Richards (Lola T332).

Lush said Clements had made a good start. “I wasn't going to dispute the first corner.” He said his McRae was hampered by an intermittent ignition cut-out in the same corner each lap.
