New Zealand CRG factory kart driver Mitch Cunningham has signed on to drive the #99 DFR/Windward Properties RF03 Van Dieman in the upcoming United States' Pacific F2000 series after a successful two-day test with Fullerton, California based Dave Freitas Racing team.

The Auckland 20-year-old brings with him an extensive karting background, having spent the last 12 years competing across the globe in various karting series.

Team DFR owner Dave Freitas couldn't be happier with the signing.

"Our main focus this past off season was getting a quality driver in the Podlesni car, and we have done so with Mitch. Although he had never driven an open wheel car before last week, Mitch has shown that he is a quick learner and that he has the tools necessary to be successful in the highly competitive Pacific Series."

Cunningham, the younger brother of 2003 World Karting Champion and 2005 Indy Pro Series champion Wade Cunningham, is excited to get on with the program.

"This past week has been a great learning experience for me. The challenge will be to get up to speed as soon as possible, but with the help of Dave, Robert and the rest of the boys, I have no doubt we will be ready to go come March."

When it came down to finding a series to run, Pacific F2000 quickly came to the forefront.

"My brother and I decided that for the money, no series in the world could compete with the exposure for the dollar that Pacific F2000 gives you. It's obvious that if you go fast in this series, people take notice," commented the young New Zealander.

Mitch rounds out a team that also includes returning veteran drivers Ira Fierberg and Peter Hastrup.
