Besnard tests Hydraulink Racing NZV8

Gold Coast based V8 Supercar driver David Besnard (29) has just completed a familiarisation test with the Hydraulink Racing Team - driving the New Zealand based #33 Ford BA Falcon.

Doing laps of the Taupo and Manfeild circuits, Besnard says he found the car enjoyable to drive: "They are the sorts of car that reward a good driver - someone who is prepared to drive it hard."

"I've had a look at how it all works and really enjoyed having a drive. It was like going back to my grass roots, so I'm really looking forward to the race season."

Introduced to his new Ford team, Besnard believes the Hydraulink Racing Team is a NZV8 Championship title contender: "It is a very professional outfit. They leave no stone unturned in their quest to win the championship - the same as me."

"Basically, if you're there with a decent car the best driver is going to win."

Now focusing on contesting the Sandown and Bathurst endurance rounds of the V8 Supercar Championship, Besnard will return to test the new car that is being constructed for him.

"The car I've just driven has done a couple of endurance events, so I've yet to try the sprint race version I will be driving."
With Manfeild the only circuit he was able to do comparative laps on; his better times would put him on the second row of the qualifying grid - on a cold winters day, dirty track, and old engine.

Team manager Greg Bellingham reported Besnard was 'fast' without needing introduction laps at the two circuits he has never seen before.

"We're all pretty happy. Not only is he a good driver, but he fits in our team really well - and that will make our job of winning the championship much easier."

The season starts in early November at Pukekohe - the only New Zealand circuit Besnard has raced before.
