Beirne keeps up the heat in Taupo

Support races wrap-up from the Taupo A1GP race meeting.

Christchurch racer, Simon Beirne, took his second V8 Utes victory of the A1GP weekend at Taupo this afternoon.

He drove his Ford Falcon to a strong win over Caine Lobb (Falcon) and Mack Peach (Holden Commodore).

Earlier V8 Supercar racer, Shane van Gisbergen, having an outing in a Porsche 911 GT3, got the better of a race-long tussle with Matt Halliday in which the lead changed several times.

Former NZ V8s driver Darryn Henderson came home third after getting past Jody Vincent.

Yesterday evening, Halliday and Jono Lester won the 50-minute Porsche mini-enduro, leading home the 911 driven by Jonny Reid and Vincent.

Former motorcycle ace, Aaron Slight and Henderson, finished the enduro third.

There was an unusual winner in the Muscle Car handicap race which started today’s action at Taupo – Tim Latrobe in a Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC.
