Reigning champion Craig Baird and Australian ace David Reynolds will resume their needle match in round two of the 2008/2009 Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge at Ruapuna Park, Christchurch, this weekend
Reynolds outqualified Baird and started from pole in round one at Pukekohe earlier this month, and teenaged rising star Jono Lester held off Baird’s determined challenge in the reverse grid final race.
Baird won the first two Pukekohe heats narrowly from a challenging Reynolds.
Baird and Reynolds have each won Australia’s Carrera Cup GT3 series – Baird for the second time this year and Reynolds in 2007.
Lester, double Toyota Racing Series champion, Gaunt, Jody Vincent, Anthony Pedersen and Australian Rodney Forbes are also likely to be front-runners at Ruapuna. Baird paid tribute to Lester’s coolness under severe pressure in the final Pukekohe race.
Battery Town Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge points after round one: Craig Baird 217; Jono Lester 189; Daniel Gaunt 154; Rodney Forbes 148; David Reynolds; Mark Russ 130; Courtney Letica 117; Jody Vincent 114; Anthony Pedersen 114; Darryn Henderson 111.
