Contesting the final round of the Northern Euro Cup (NEC) series in the Formula Renault 2.0 class, Kiwi teen Brendon Hartley had a tough weekend aboard the Red Bull Junior Team car.
Racing at the Austrian Salzburgring circuit, Hartley started well with a 5th in qualifying for the first race. However his race was to end early when he ran in to the back of fellow Kiwi Chris van der Drift
"I am so sorry - the guys in front of me were early on the brakes - I had no chance," he said after the race.
The second race for the weekend and final for the series went more smoothly for the 16-year old; but only in the final result.
Again starting from 5th position there was a clutch failure at the start that dropped him to the back of the grid - Brendon second fastest in terms of outright lap pace to finish 7th overall.
His next race weekend is at the end of the month with the penultimate round of the Eurocup series at Le Mans (28 Sept - 1st Oct).
